PROFESSIONAL

A main reason students at JMU join Alpha Kappa Psi is to further develop their professional skills. A great way to accomplish this growth is by attending speakers and being exposed to networking opportunities. See below for more information.

Networking Opportunities

Alpha Kappa Psi recognizes that today’s students are tomorrow’s business leaders. Members of AKPsi work diligently beginning the moment they join to create a large and diverse network to help them in the future. A great opportunity to connect with professionals is through Alumni Brothers. These relationships can be extremely beneficial when students are searching for internship or job openings. Alumni are great to work with because they understand what you are going through and want to help out fellow brothers. Brothers connect with not only Nu Psi Alumni, but other chapters around the country (and globe) as well.

Besides Alumni Brothers, there are many different events and opportunities to attend with AKPsi to expand your network. For example, PBLI (Principled Business Leadership Institute) is an event held in five different locations across the US. It is meant to build professional skills, but while in attendance it is impossible not to make new connections. Some connections may be with brothers in other chapters whom you meet during a session on Marketing. Others may be a connection with a professional giving a presentation on time management. Every brother creates their own experiences and network to provide themselves with resources for the future.

Speakers

AKPsi, along with the College of Business and Professional Business Fraternity Council (PBFC), work hard to provide brothers with opportunities to see successful businessmen and businesswomen speak. Many skills and facts can be learned by attending speakers throughout a college career. In the past few years, Alpha Kappa Psi brothers have seen speakers from companies such as Deloitte, Accenture, KPMG, TEK Systems, and University Directories. Former JMU President Ronald Carrier recently spoke to brothers also about his time at JMU and how to make the most out of theirs.

AKPsi PBLI

PBLI: Principled Business Leaders Institute is held each year in 5 different cities across the country. PBLI offers individuals a weekend focusing on professional skill building at the individual level, while allowing for the opportunity to network with other chapters and business professionals. Attendees participate in a curriculum centered on the values of principled business leadership and the values of AKPsi- brotherhood, unity, integrity, service, and knowledge.

Convention

Convention is held every two years and consists of two main parts- the Chapter Congress Meeting and the College of Leadership. This event is a great opportunity to learn from other chapters and alumni as well as to receive council and advice from leaders within the Heritage Center. Additional events include the Celebration of Brotherhood, Brother Night out, and the Grand Banquet.
